Our Story

Reuben was born and raised in the Amish lifestyle until the age of 18. His Dad operated a leather shop from his early years. By the age of 9, he was helping in the shop, melting off the leftover threads on the horse halters. In his Amish teenage years, he spent a year teaching in an Amish Parochial school, then spent a few years doing construction and metal roofing. After his family left the Amish culture, he studied for an education degree and earned his bachelor's at Radford University in Radford, Virginia. He taught school for 5 years, then made the decision, along with his wife, to return to his leathercrafting roots. Crazy Horse Leather was formed in 2020, then he quit teaching and returned to full-time leatherwork in 2021.
